A hill station in Andhra Pradesh. Though most cities in Andhra Pradesh has high temperature, this hill station has a special place in the list of hill stations. Araku is located about 114 kilometres from Visakhapatnam and close to the Odisha state border.

It has valley, waterfalls and streams flowing by the side of the train track and roads. There is a lot to visit in Araku. Road trip is best to choose to go to Araku valley with  good driving skills due to the Ghat road way.

What all to visit

Chaparai Waterfalls – It is located at a distance of almost 5 kilometers from the valley, and  is an ideal place for outing  with family, and friends.
Timings : Throughout the day
Entry Fee : INR 10 per person
Best Time to Visit : After the monsoons; October to March when the falls are not too dry and yet not slippery either.

Padmapuram Botanical Garden – This botanical garden has rare flowers and trees . Beautiful tree huts can also be seen here.
Entry Fee: Rs. 10 for Person
Timings: 9 AM to 6 PM

Borra Caves Borra Caves were discovered in 1807 by British geologist William King . The process of the formation of the Borra Caves is quite intriguing as well. Humic acid in the water reacts with the calcium carbonate in the limestone and dissolves the minerals breaking the rock gradually. It’s a perfect destination to pursue a trekking adventure.

Ananthagiri WaterfallsIt is an ideal place for nature lovers. The waterfall is at a distance of 1 -2 km from the main road connecting the Araku Valley and Ananthagiri Town. It is located on the Eastern Ghats, about 60 km from the Visakhapatnam and is 30 km from Araku Valley. Price: No entry Fees
Timing: It is open on all days of the week between 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Best Time to Visit: The most suitable time to visit Ananthagiri Waterfalls is after the monsoon period.

If you are planning to stay in Aruku , there are so many lodges on the way where there is arrangement for camp-fire , local famous bamboo chicken e.tc . It’s one of the best thing to do if you have planned for Araku visit with a group of friends.

Best Time to Visit Araku Valley :

December to February is the winter season and the temperature during these months drop down to five degrees Celsius and it is the best time to visit Araku.

There are so many resorts in Araku including Haritha Hill Resort , Haritha Valley Resort , Hill Park Resorts e.t.c . Its always better to make a booking in advance because finding vacancy in resorts will be almost full in peak seasons .

Food:

Though there are few restaurants where South Indian food can be found, but apart from these, Araku is also famous for its tribal delicacy ‘Bamboo Chicken’. It is cooked without oil and water and its taste is simply amazing and the prices are really reasonable. It can be found in the way to Araku. Chicken is cooked in the bamboos for one and a half hour without oil and water which gives it a wonderful aroma.

What & Where to shop :

It is famous for its local handicrafts, silk, bronze antiques, momentos and many more. Momentos made up of wood are really marvellous and can be shopped as a memorable item from Araku. Silk of Araku Valley is the most popular item of all.
